Fireworks will ignite the sky and country tunes will set the stage for Houston’s signature annual patriotic celebration, US Family Health Plan Freedom Over Texas from 4 – 10 pm on Tuesday, July 4 at the recently renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park in Buffalo Bayou Park.
There will be a number of park and trail closures in preparation for this civic celebration – please be mindful of the set-up crews and plan your visit to Buffalo Bayou Park accordingly.

2017 FOT Street and Trail Closures:
TRAIL CLOSURES:
Buffalo Bayou Park trails located south of the bayou between Sabine Street at Allen Parkway and Taft at Allen Parkway will experience intermittent closures and rerouting Tuesday, June 27, through Saturday, July 1; and, Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6 between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. PLEASE USE CAUTION AND REDUCE SPEEDS AROUND THE EVENT AREA; BEWARE OF HEAVY TRAIL TRAFFIC.
A full closure of the trails south of the bayou between Sabine Street at Allen Parkway and Taft at Allen Parkway will be in place on Sunday, July 2, at 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday, July 5 at 7:30 a.m. A full closure of the trails north of the bayou between Sabine Street and Tapley Tributary will be in place on Tuesday, July 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight.
STREET CLOSURES:
Tuesday, June 27 at 8:00 a.m. through Friday, July 7 at 8:00 p.m. the Allen Parkway parking lane from Sabine to Taft. Sunday, July 2, 7:00 a .m.to Wednesday, July 5, 7:00 a.m. Allen Parkway north and southbound exit ramps from Interstate 45 (Gulf and North Freeways); Allen Parkway outbound at Bagby; Sabine Street at Memorial Drive; Walker access blocked to Allen Parkway and Sabine Street. 1-45 North on-ramp and the loop to McKinney remains open; Crosby Street at W. Dallas Street; Gillette Street at W. Dallas Street; Heiner Street at W. Dallas Street (NOTE: Heiner reopens 7/5/17 by 5:00 p.m.); and, Allen Parkway inbound at Taft (NOTE: Allen Parkway reopens 7/5/17 by 8:00 a.m.). Monday, July 3, 8:00 a .m. to Sunday, July 2, 10:00 a.m. Gillette (east curb lane only) between W. Dallas and Allen Parkway. Tuesday, July 4, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Bagby northbound at Dallas; Bagby southbound at McKinney; and, Lamar between Smith and Bagby. Tuesday, July 4, 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Silver Street at Memorial Drive; Sawyer Street at Washington Avenue; Allen Parkway inbound at Waugh; Allen Parkway Service Road at Montrose Boulevard (access to residents at all times); Memorial Drive inbound at Waugh Drive (NOTE: Closure begins at 5:30 p.m.); and, Memorial Drive outbound at Bagby (NOTE: Closure begins at 5:30 p.m.). Tuesday, July 4, 9:00 p.m.to 10:00 p.m. Sabine Street between Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive and the trails north of the bayou between Sabine Street and Tapley Tributary (NOTE: This area will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic).
OTHER CLOSURES:
The Water Works Complex (Wortham Insurance Visitor Center, Bike Barn, Restrooms, and The Brown Foundation Lawn), Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area, and Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark will be closed Thursday, June 29, at 5:00 p.m. through Wednesday, July 5 at 1:00 p.m.
The Buffalo Bayou Waterway will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. between the Capital Street Bridge and Montrose/Studemont Street Bridge.
