Join BBP and the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts for Unsilent Night, a free and interactive holiday event! Unsilent Night is a sound sculpture created when many individuals simultaneously play one of four tracks by composer Phil Kline.

Friends and family are invited to an informal reception at 6 pm to enjoy hot chocolate and coffee from Katz Coffee, beer from Saint Arnold Brewing Company, a small craft for the kids and a special visit from Santa! Guests can also purchase food and sweet treats from The Waffle Bus and Chocolate Wasted. The procession along Buffalo Bayou’s hike and bike trails will begin at 7 pm.

Before you arrive:

  • Come with your cell phones fully charged, dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes! If you have portable speakers for your smartphone or listening device, please bring those as well. We will have a limited number of boomboxes and speakers available for use during the procession.
  • If you’re using a smartphone: The free Unsilent Night app is available for iOS download through the Apple App Store here and Android download through the Amazon App Store here. We recommend downloading the app prior to your arrival. Once it is on your phone, you will be able to easily play any of the four selected tracks on your phone.
  • If you are using a boombox: The Mitchell Center will have a few Unsilent Night CDs available for guests to play on their own boomboxes, as well as a few boomboxes already loaded with CDs available for guests to use during the parade!
  • If you’re using an mp3 player: Each of the four Unsilent Night tracks are available here for free download under “Download a Sound File.” You are welcome to pick any one of the tracks you wish to play that night. If you are coming in a group, we encourage you to download different tracks. If you plan on using an mp3 player, please bring a set of speakers – the louder the better!
