Trails & Connections
Trails & Connections
A vital hike and bike trail network connects Buffalo Bayou Park, Downtown Houston, and destinations along Buffalo Bayou East.
Improved Trailways
New Connections
Uniting neighborhoods with the bayou and each other.
To extend the hike and bike trail system that winds through Buffalo Bayou Park and downtown, BBP is building new links and upgrading existing segments from east of US 59 to Jensen Drive on the north bank and then Jensen Drive to Tony Marron Park on the south, yielding connectivity across Buffalo Bayou East. New amenities including benches, wayfinding signage, trash/recycling receptacles, and BBP’s signature Lunar Cycle Lighting will make the trails attractive, secure, and navigable.
Just east of Jensen Drive along the south bank trail, near massive concrete silos that once stored gravel, a unique pocket park will demonstrate how excess stormwater is temporarily stored and gradually released to avoid flooding.
Additionally, two new pedestrian bridges will further link neighborhoods to each other and to the waterfront. The first bridge to be constructed will connect Tony Marron Park on the south bank with Japhet Creek Park on the north, and the second will be located near Gregg Street on the north bank and Velasco Street on the south.
By 2032, Buffalo Bayou Partnership and its partners will realize the Buffalo Bayou East 10-Year Plan, bringing parks, trails, bayou-crossing bridges, affordable housing, cultural destinations, and infrastructure improvements to the Greater East End and Fifth Ward. This visionary plan is made possible by a $100 million catalyst gift from the Kinder Foundation to Buffalo Bayou Partnership, which leveraged significant public support from Harris County and the City of Houston, including Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone funds.
