Volunteer Spotlight:

Storm Recovery Volunteers

BBP had an incredible response from the community to our call for assistance after Hurricane Beryl. We had over 160 volunteers join us over the past month to remove trash, tree limbs, sediment, and debris from trails, the Johnny Steele Dog Park, Houston Police Officers Memorial, and other green spaces throughout Buffalo Bayou Park.

We want to say a special thank you to all the individuals and families as well as groups from Quest Trust, Islam CIVIC, Guidehouse Inc., POSSE Houston, Boy Scout Troup 730, and SERVE Houston for helping us successfully recover from the storm.

Safety Tips

We do everything we can to ensure the safety of park visitors, volunteers, and staff. Volunteers may use standard gardening and landscaping tools on which they will be trained. Tasks can be modified to accommodate all abilities. When working outdoors, there are always precautions to consider. Here are some helpful tips for a safe experience:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Take frequent breaks
  • Wear proper clothing
  • Prepare for the environment
  • Monitor weather conditions

Detailed safety information can found here.
