2023
Theresa Ecobedo

Theresa Escobedo’s work intersects ancestry, history, spiritualism, and, in some cases, ideas on land, nature, and the act of pilgrimaging. This effort combines expressions of the artist’s cultural heritage with cosmopolitan spiritual pursuits. Recently, her practice has evolved to include the design and installation of ofrendas, each of which, like her photography, demonstrates a decisive act of remembrance and works to safeguard familial mythologies, cultural histories, and spiritual connections.

Project Engagement
Theresa and members of Colectiva Pochteca, the artist collective arm of Houston’s Calmecac Indigenous Organization, hosted concerts in the Cistern. Native American and Indigenous songs were performed through voice, dance and drums to celebrate the Fall 2023 Equinox/September Harvest Moon.
