Kristi Rangel

Krisi Rangel is a Houston-based, self-taught multi-disciplinary artist who has lived in the Greater East End for more than 20 years. She has deep ties and connections to the Fifth Ward community that have afforded her the opportunity to truly become part of one of Houston’s most historic African American communities. Kristi brings to her artistic practice the passion and dedication to community honed by many years as an outstanding educational, public health, and government leader. Her subject matter is nature’s biodiversity and the integral place of humans in a greater ecosystem that requires community and collaboration. Environmental equity is a basic human right entitled to all people and the spaces they call home.

Kristi is currently the lead facilitator and curator of the “Witness Series.” The “Witness Series,” now in its fourth year, is an interactive public art experience that explores the many profound connections Communities of Color have to the Land of Southeast Texas. She is a painter who takes her work beyond the canvas through guided, hands-on activities designed to bring communities together. These experiences incorporate participatory talks, dynamic art, hikes, bird walks, and other practices that create wonder and awe for their participants.
