Cistern Illuminated
Cistern Illuminated
Experience an otherworldly combination of light and sound at the third annual light installation in the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern this holiday season.
Cistern Illuminated
Brighten up your winter with, Cistern Illuminated, an immersive light and sound installation in the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern. This annual tradition transforms the underground decommissioned drinking water reservoir into a breathtaking spectacle, showcasing the Cistern’s repeating columns and their uncanny reflections on the surface of the water below. A unique and original soundscape follows the moving lights around the cavernous Cistern. On select dates, the Cistern Illuminated installation will be accompanied by live choral performances.
Choral Performances
Experience the Cistern’s incredible reverberation with special performances by the Schola Cantorum of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. These periodic events feature ethereal songs from the seventh century to the present day. Concerts will feature works of Hildegard van Bingen, Guillaume Dufay, Elizabeth Poston, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, Crista Miller, and others in this unique acoustic space.
